Attendee Stories: Melbourne Summit

September 3, 2017

Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am the eLearning Leader at St Benedict’s, Burwood. My role involves teaching each class once a week as a Digital Technologies specialist, assisting staff to incorporate the Digital Technology Curriculum into their program, managing the school’s Google account and generally trying to keep up with our students!

How long have you been attending EdTechTeam events?
This year will be my fourth Melbourne Summit and I am looking forward to catching up with people I have met previously as well as meeting new people. Every year I have come away from the summit with a couple of new ideas to try immediately, at least one program, app or chrome extension to share with my school and renewed enthusiasm for the term ahead.

What do you love about EdTechTeam events?
I love that all levels of experience and ability are catered for in the workshops and most of the presenters are current teachers, who are willing to share what didn’t work as well as what worked best. The keynote speakers always challenge me to look at my role, either as a teacher or school leader, and question whether I have become complacent.

What are you looking forward to at your fourth Melbourne Summit?
This year I am looking forward to finding out new ways to utilise some of the G-Suite tools, ideas for making learning more authentic for our students and mainly having the opportunity to talk with other teachers about the successes and challenges we all face.

“Why should I buy a ticket?” Here are my top 3 reasons:

  1. You will come away with at least one new teaching idea, ready to go immediately
  2. You will be challenged to look at your role (in the classroom and/or school) critically
  3. You will meet lots of people with the same challenges, questions and enthusiasm as you.
