Kuala Lumpur Summit 2017: Go Beyond Normal

As a beginner vlogger in EdTech, I’m extremely thrilled to keep the most exciting moments from my best professional development experiences. My passion pushed me to ‘fly’ from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur to join the EdTechTeam Summit at IGB International School, Selangor, Malaysia. The two days summit experience successfully made me do a lot of ‘Beyond-Normal’ things! Take a look!

1. Energize your heart and mind with the most inspiring keynote session.

Listening to great educators who have passion bigger than their fear is always totally energizing. Yes, it’s not just about technology use, it’s about how you use technology to channel your passion in learning and teaching. One of the most powerful messages which made me speechless was taken from Ben Friesen’s session “Teaching is not my job; Getting better at it-that’s my job.”

2. Meet the most passionate educators with their biggest ideas.

Here, we didn’t only meet like-minded educators, but we also shared, inspired, challenged, and learned from each other. We shared our unique stories and experiences which gave us insightful perspectives about learning. The spirit of learning here’s  super contagious and infectious. You will never be the same after meeting them!   

3. Join relevant, fun, and engaging workshops which challenge you to do more in your class.

I was very excited to lead a workshop session called “Gamify Your Lesson with Google Earth”. Everyone participated in the series of Earth challenges and questions. We built a resourceful slide in which everyone shared their favorite places and our on Google Earth. The best part of it, I was not the smartest person in the room since some participants spontaneously shared the other creative strategies to gamify their lesson with Google Earth. Then, the celebration of learning continued as I joined the other amazing breakout sessions such as Seesaw, Pear Deck, Virtual Reality, Google Sites, Amazing Race, and BreakoutEDU which fired up my spirit to do more in my class!

4. Express Your Geeky Like Pro in Demo Slam

One of my favorite ‘Beyond Normal’ moments in this summit was Demo Slam Competition. In this session, speakers and participants were encouraged to share their 3 minutes presentation about their favorite EdTech tips, tricks, and skills. From this session, I learned that the simplest ideas, tips, tricks, add-ons, and apps can be transformational in the hand of PRO educators! Get ready to be Geeky here. After that, participants voted the best demo slam through EdTechTeam mobile apps.

In the end, this summit went beyond my expectations as now I feel empowered to bring magical moments to inspire more Indonesian and global educators to go beyond normal.
