Happy New Year!!!! A new year is upon us! With a new year, comes new goals, new “one words” that will drive our focus and intention for the upcoming year, and a renewed feeling of doing things right, growth, and advancement! All across the world, people search Pinterest and Google images for quotes and pictures that will serve as visual representations of their goals for the upcoming year. They print these pictures and quotes out, mount them to a poster board, and hang them in their bedrooms or bathrooms so they can see them each and every day. Having this visual representation of your goals hanging somewhere so you are forced to look at it every day, plants your goals in your mind and keeps them at the forefront of all that you do.
Have you ever thought about creating a digital vision board of your professional goals for the year? I did just that! I spent a lot of time in reflection over the holiday break thinking about what my #oneword was going to be for the year as well as the goals that I wanted to accomplish this year. Going through this process really made me stop and think about what I wanted to focus on for 2018. I took and then pulled some pictures from my Twitter feed as well as Google Images, downloaded them, and created a digital version of a vision board. I centered my visual goals around my word of the year for 2018, which is “be.” I chose this word because I want to remind myself to be present, be in the moment, be the intention, be focused…just be.
To create my digital vision board, I utilized Picmonkey as well as Google Drawings. Each of these tools were extremely easy to use and navigate. I created mine to be very simple and streamlined in an attempt to not be distracted by the “glitter” that could have been added! The two that I created are below:
As you can see from my digital vision board, some of the things that I plan on accomplishing/focusing on are:
- Completing my Doctoral degree!
- Growing as an #edtech leader.
- Writing a book.
- Starting a podcast.
- Continuing to blog.
- Get more active on Flipgrid.
- Recertify for the Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert program.
- Recertify for the Google Certified Trainer Program.
- Apply for the Google Certified Innovator Program.
- Remain active in the purpose and vision of Our Voice Academy!
There are several other creations or collage tools/apps that you could use to create your very own digital vision board! Try examining tools/apps such as A Beautiful Mess, Camera360, Canva, PicCollage, Photogrid, etc. There are a lot of them out there to choose from. January 13, 2018, was National Vision Board Day! Why not get your students involved to create their own digital version of a vision board! Host a vision board party at your school! Share the creations in Google Classroom, on Twitter, or in a class blog! If you’re a 1:1 school have your students use their digital vision board as their lock screen/screensaver on their devices so they are able to see their goals for the year every time they pick up their devices! You could always print them out and hang them in the classroom or on a hallway bulletin board as well! Happy planning!
