Call Them By Their Name
“If I’m gonna tell a real story, I’m gonna start with my name.” – Kendrick Lamar – For my entire life, having an unusual first name has been my greatest source of anxiety. After four decades with the name ‘Cutia’, I am now ready to tell a real story of how it came to be AND how it is pronounced. This keynote will explore the implications of consistently mispronouncing a student’s name. It will also empower everyone to embrace and even celebrate all names, whether common or unique!
Cutia Blunt serves as the Director of Academic Technology at The Galloway School in Atlanta. Prior to this year, she was the Assistant Principal of Early Learning at Galloway. She also spent 14 years as a classroom and gifted program teacher in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Cutia has earned an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University. She’s a Google Certified Innovator and Trainer. She also is a Level 1 and 2 Google Certified Educator. Most recently, she gained the Apple Teacher and BrainPop certifications.
