The Relevant Teacher
The role of a teacher today is very different than what most teachers originally signed up for. Patrick Green shares insights into what innovative schools and relevant teachers are doing to meet the needs of today’s students as well as strategies for staying relevant as the needs of students continue to evolve.
Patrick Green is currently the Middle School Education Technology Coordinator at Singapore American School, where he assists teachers in integrating technology into the curriculum in meaningful ways so that students use current tools to create, collaborate, think critically, conduct research, and solve problems.
Patrick Green is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Teacher, and Google Apps for Education Certified Trainer. He has been recognized as a YouTube Star Teacher and has extensive experience supporting teachers in “Flipping” the classroom.
Formerly, as the Upper School Integration Specialist at the International School of Prague, Patrick managed an Apple Macbook 1-1 laptop program; early in his teaching career as a Middle School US History, Reading and Language Arts teacher, Patrick was selected to participate in the Teacher Leadership Project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He taught in a 2 to 1 laptop environment and connected with likeminded educators working towards making education more relevant to students.
Outside of the regular work day, Patrick often finds himself in Cambodia where he assists in student and parent house-building service, local teacher training programs, and local school computer lab development. As with most of his experiences in education, he is learning much more than his students.
